Every pilot begins with the Private Pilot Certificate (PPL). Using the ‘building block’ approach, we take anyone, even those who have never sat in an aircraft, through the syllabus guided by the Federal Aviaton Administration and perfected by our 20+ years of experience, and turn them into a safe, competent private pilot. The PPL is roughly similar to a driver’s license; a Private Pilot can take an aircraft, day or night, with passengers, and fly anywhere in the world, whenever he so chooses. Do you want to be a more competent, safer, and better pilot? Add an Instrument Rating to your certificate. While the PPL has limitations on the weather minimums required for flight, the Instrument Rating allows the Private Pilot to fly in weather that will ground other, non-instrument rated pilots. While it doesn’t erase all weather contingencies, it really makes your PPL much more useful.

This is one rating, however, where experience definitely pays. When interviewing a flight school, FIND OUT HOW MUCH INSTRUMENT TIME YOUR POTENTIAL SCHOOL/INSTRUCTOR HAS. As shocking as it sounds, many flight schools do not require an Instrument Pilot applicant to fly in ‘actual’ instrument weather. In fact, most Instructor Pilots are too inexperienced to fly in clouds themselves. At Speed Hunter Aviation, we WILL NOT ALLOW ANY APPLICANT TO PROCEED TO THEIR CHECKRIDE UNLESS THEY FLY MULTIPLE FLIGHTS IN ACTUAL IMC WEATHER. Experience matters.
